Marie Mackrell

Hey Melinda,
I agree the first week is so overwhelming. This is my third year teaching and I don't know if I am any more organized at the start of the this year then I was when I first started teaching. It is so hard getting to know your caseload and making sure the school is in compliance. Also, since I am working with sixth graders, the files require a great deal of work. Since we are all rushing to complete many different kinds of tasks, I worry that I might miss something. It would be great to have some type of checks and balance system.

Marie,

I totally agree that the set time for Gen ed teachers to sign the accommodations saved a lot of time! I only had to find two teachers. What a change from my first year last year where I kept my hair pretty short so I wouldn't pull it all out! I feel the same way about worrying whether or not I forgot something. Last year seems a blur to me now that I look back on it. I wonder how did I do all of that? I am trying to be more organized this year. I agree that it would be great to have some kind of checks and balances system that would make sure that I didn't miss something. I tend to worry about that. I wonder if the paperwork is good enough, and or again if I missed something. I guess the key might be to do our best, admit mistakes, and not be too hard on ourselves.

We are lucky to have a good group of special ed teachers in our builing. If I ask, someone is always willing to lend a hand. It's great to have the support.
