Erin

The hardest thing that I have had to deal with this week are my active students and designing lesson plans that keep my students focused for 90 minutes. Two of my parents that I have talked to this week have told me that their child is not taking their medicine for their ADHD. I do not know what to do! It is so hard for me to teach my students who are so unfocused! I use different teaching techniques and different activities that allow my students to have fun, but learn at the same time. However some days I feel that no matter how I teach I am not geting through to some of my students!!

Hey Erin. I think that all of us probably feel the way you are right now at one point or another. And I'm sure that it's probably only a few students that you feel like you're not reaching. I would suggest to keep doing what you're doing (keep trying different things) until you start to see some improvement in those students who are most difficult. But don't forget about the ones who are doing well! I know I sometimes feel like I'm neglecting the students who do everything I ask of them because I'm trying to deal with another student's behavior or lack of work or whatever. I think we first-year teachers are in "survival" mode right now!

It sounds like you are doing a great job. Changing things up, different activities, techniques. I bet they are getting more than you think.
Maybe you could try to signal the student or walk by and touch them on the shoulder when you see they are off task.
