Marie Mackrell

Hello Everyone...I wondered if you had any advice for a student who constantly raises her hand. She never puts her hand down. I don't want her to feel like she can't raise her hand, but she is really disrupting the flow of the class. When I do call on her most of the time she has a silly comment or it is something relating to a random topic. I have tried several things, but nothing is working. Any ideas??????????

We have a young man in the classroom who does the same thing. He raises his hand before anyone can finish their thought or comment. I believe it is a form of attention seeking. The strategy that we used was to speak with the young man after class and explained to him that his participation in class was welcomed and encouraged, but he must allow his peers to complete their thoughts and comments otherwise he causes a disturbance. It works on some days and others days he forgets. (smile)
