Jon Hurst

Hello all,
I attended a webinar on the use of smartboards specifically to educate students with autism today. It looked like a great tool. I have not had the opportunity to use a smartboard yet. The presenters said it greatly increased the attention and helped lower negative behaviors when the smartboard was used for interactive instruction. Is there a website to research lessons that work well on smartboards?

Jon,
I love the smartboard! There are so many different things that you can do with it. There is an actual site from the software that has a few lessons that you can use; but you can just google smartboard activities for specific subjects and all kind of things will pop up. You can also project actual interactive websites that have games and such and the students can do it on the smartboard. It acts as a huge interactive computer screen and the students hands and fingers are the cursors. Scanning worksheets onto the smartboard is also a good thng to do when you are going over it. I have some games and stuff at school. If i think about it I tomorrow I will send you them.

Jon,

I used the Smart board very effectively last year with an adolescent young lady that had Aspergers. We used a lot of the game available on Shepperd Software.com. They have a lot of on line quizes and tests, we used the ones for geography and they not only keep track of your student's % correct, but the amount of time that it took for them to answer. We ended up having competitions in class, and she won them constantly she was so amazing at identifying countries, etc.. try it out. They also have science and other subjects on their web site. They have games that teach the concepts as well and assessments.
Hope that helps.
